Website http://co-opa.com June 2023, Vol. 23, Issue 6 President's Message: Head on over to the Bend Builders Assist hanger, 63030 Powell Butte Road, on the south west corner of KBDN, on June 15th (the Third Thursday) at 6pm to discuss the usual. Bring your own dinner, and we’ll eat right away before food get cold. As always, many thanks go out to Mike Robertson, and Mike Wissing, for letting us use their space. Due to my eyesight problems I’m no longer flying. Hopefully someone steps up and wants to lead a Fly-out for this month (and beyond). New IFR Procedures at KBDN: Hearing new procedures on Seattle Center frequency? Like “VOR-A with North Recovery", “Campbell One Departure” or “Hazy One Departure”? Can’t find them in your EFB? Well, Jay Bunning, Director of Flight Training at Leading Edge Aviation (LEA) informs me they are new informal IFR training procedures for use by LEA helicopters during VFR conditions. Jay and Mike Klock are working to get the procedures online so we can all see them. Oregon Department of Aviation: The ODA reports that Michael Oliver has resigned from his recently appointed position on the ODA board. The board meets quarterly to oversee Oregon airport operations and budgets. If you are interested in taking his seat, contact the ODA. Oregon Pilots Association: A quick reminder that we are a chapter of the Oregon Pilots Association. They have a fine newsletter, and earn their $25 annual dues. Last week Bend Airport was treated to an extreme example. The owner of a Cessna 340A, N340SW, gave us an extreme example. He tried to taxi his left wing tip tank through the 4” square steel support for the self serve fuel awning. The support got bent, the tip tank got bent, but worse, the outboard wing just ripped clean off. A vigorous fire ensued, destroying the airplane and the entire fuel farm. Fly-out (not): Due to people’s scheduling conflicts there was no Fly-out or in town breakfast for our June Fly-out Day. I hope someone steps up and continues the tradition.
