Website http://co-opa.com April 2016, Vol. 16, Issue 4 President's Message: If this is global warning then I can get used to it. Except for the early thunderstorms and fires. As always, keep an eye out for the weather and TFRs. Come ponder global warming an other contentious subjects at our meeting on 21 April, the Third Thursday. Be at the Professional Air lounge downstairs in the KBDN Flight Services Building around 6pm. Bring some food for the potluck at 6:30pm, and the usual 'formal' meeting at 7pm. For our fly-out the weather looks to be overcast in the Valley. So what else is new? Bend, The Dalles, Burns and Chiloquin are forecast for partly cloudy. Winds at KBDN 10 to 20 mph, but at KDLS and KBNO gusting to 40 mph. Chiloquin looks best with winds 10 to 15mph and partly cloudy. So come early and ponder the weather with us. Calendar: 21 April – Monthly Meeting 23 April – Monthly Fly-out 19 May – Monthly Meeting 21 May – Monthly Fly-out 16 June – Monthly Meeting 18 June – Monthly Fly-out 25 June – OPA Convention @ WAAAM 21 July – Monthly Meeting 23 July – Monthly Fly-out March Fly-out: The weather in the Valley was overcast, what else is new? Instead an intrepid group of 3 airplanes flew to Wasco (S35) Airport. Kim Muinch, Mike & Ann Bond, and Gary Miller with Don Wilfong took the trip. After a short walk to town, the long way, we had a nice meal at the Lean-To Café. On the return trip Mike was surprised to find himself over an airfield in Grass Valley. Gary was surprised to find Oregon Raceway Park in Grass Valley, but neither saw the other landmark. My Inbox: Spring is here and my INBOX is filling up. The Erickson Aircraft Collection will be flying a few warbirds to KBND on Friday 22 April about 11:30am. Come out to the ramp (carefully) and cheer their arrival for lunch. KBDN Airport manager Gary Judd has sent out an email confirming their will be traffic pattern changes at the Bend Airport. No word yet on what they might be. To avoid the sort of mess Salem just had, maybe an Open House should be had before any decision becomes ‘final’. The Hayward Air Rally will not be heading to KBDN this year. Instead they will be heading to Reno/Stead Airport. The OPA Annual convention will be at the Western Antique Automobile and Aircraft Museum this year, on June 25th. Two great places to be in the same spot this year. RIP Ed Endsley: Our good friend Ed Endsley passed away April 11th. He had been ill with throat cancer since last fall. Even after losing all his hair to chemo therapy Ed still looked like Ed and brought a light into every room he entered. He will be missed. There will be a remembrance service for Ed on May 7th at 10:30am in the Unitarian Church off Skyliner. Newsletter Inputs: Send your newsletter tidbits to: Sick List: Our member Harry McFadden took a fall during the March meeting, and broke his femur at the hip joint. Needless to say this required an ambulance ride and the forceful insertion of titanium rods and screws. Harry will be in rehab at Pilot Butte Rehab Center, in room 10 for 2 or 3 weeks yet.
